Happy Poetry Friday. We are hosted here by Robyn, at Life at the Deckle Edge. Thank you, Robyn for hosting.
As I write this it is beautiful in Central New York. To make things even better I received my Summer Poem Swap list from Tabatha and look forward to sending and receiving summer poems. Thanks, Tabatha!
During National Poetry Month I posted a haiku about the lilacs flowering in my yard. They were tight little purple buds on April 23, seen Here. Now they are I think at their peak and deserve a final haiku.
Lilacs in full bloom. I waited for two weeks-- you showed no hurry. © Janice Scully 2023
Oh Janice, even not in full budding, they are beautiful. It’s fun that you showed your impatience. They are gorgeous & blooming here, too.
Hooray! I love lilac time. It’s such a short and sweet couple of weeks…that softens all of NYS after a winter. Enjoy.
I love the scent of lilacs and your photo immediately brought that to mind. Definitely worth waiting for. I’m looking forward to participating in the summer poetry swap this year, too – my first time!
Charming poem, Janice! Did you know that lilacs are edible? You can make lilac sugar with them, lilac ice cream… https://practicalselfreliance.com/edible-lilacs/
Interesting! I did not. Thanks, Tabatha.
Lilacs! Worth the wait. Thank you for sharing, Janice! xo
Beauteous! I have a quote up somewhere about nature never hurrying and yet always getting done what needs to be done. 🙂
Lovely!
Our lilac bushes are in bloom too. I’m rather allergic but I won’t let my husband cut the bushes down. I love them too much. 🙂
Ahhh… gorgeous! Thank you for the lovely lyrical lilacs today. (& of COURSE Tabatha has a recipe for lilacs….)
What a feast for patient eyes! Magenta! Looking forward to our Summer Poem Swap!
I love lilac time in the spring, but mostly because it is the preview for peony and iris time!
You mean lilacs aren’t the only flowers? Who knew?
Janice, it is a good thing that I looked on my laptop after moving from my desktop computer. I must have been distracted when writing a response to you so upon checking, I was right. I am glad that spring is popping in Syracuse. I read your earlier post also.I wish my lilacs looked like your yours but I might have to wait also.
Hee hee–I like your conversational tone in this one, Janice!
These lilacs are beautiful (and so is your haiku)!
I love this. Such loveliness is worth waiting for 🙂
Oh, lilacs. I just love them. A California friend gave us our lilac, so I always take pics and send them to her. I enjoyed your haiku!
