Welcome to Poetry Friday, this week hosted by the lovely Kat Apel on her blog HERE. Stop by to see what she has for us this week! Thank you, Kat!
Maybe because it’s still cold out. And because there is so much trouble and worry in the world, I began to think about warmer, quieter, summer times, quiet moments when I had nothing to do as a child but wonder about the miracles in the world around me. I lived in a small town with trees, grass, and wild life just outside my door. How fortunate!
WONDERING I have an hour, to wonder in peace, touch the grass, watch the geese. Tomorrow when my chores are done, I’ll ponder the sky, the clouds, the sun, by the zinnias, and hope to spy a hummingbird come whirling by. © Janice Scully 2021
I wish everyone the time to wonder in peace and even a few moments to ponder the natural world, especially children.
May God bless the people of Ukraine.
Thank you, Kat, for hosting!
Oh, I do love wonder. I hope to never lose the wonder in the intricacies of creation, and also the simple joys. Thank-you for sharing this sweet moment.
Thank you. I absolutely do need some peace and time to wonder. Your poem brought me back to a time when planting a zinnia seed was a wonder. I’m going to hang out in that memory a bit today.
Thank you for this moment of respite, this reminder to take the time to reflect and wonder despite life’s troubles.
I think it’s essential that we wonder about and marvel in the miracles of the natural world. We’re all going to have to love this Earth hard if we want to work together to save her!
Wondering is my favorite thing–thanks, Janice!
Janice, your thoughts on wondering are filled with a be in the moment stance. As a wonderologist, I always savor the time spent with nature.
Like you Janice, I spent my childhood in an environment of trees and grass and forests, and it also gave rise to much pondering. So I am readily identifying with your poem. I often think I lived my formative years as a fortunate child. I like your pondering of the sky. It takes me back to those long ago days.
Your poem is ‘wonder’ful, Janice. Thanks for reminding us to take a moment to ponder. 🙂
How lovely! I love the cadence of this poem (and I love hummingbirds!).
Wondering might be the only thing I feel capable of this week. Thank you, Janice.
Yes to Wonder, and your lovely poem Janice, filled with nature and joy, and so important to all of us!
Ah, Janice. How I love to wonder and wander and had so many moments in nature as a child. How lucky and blessed to have so many rich experiences. I wish so for rich experiences of whatever kind for kids everywhere and right now peace and healing for the people and especially children and grievers in Ukraine. It seems unreal that the pandemic hit and now this horrible, horrible war. Thank you for pointing out that so much in nature heals our souls. I pray to God that the war casualties and situation will end soon. It breaks my heart.
What a sweet, simple, profound little poem! Thank you, Janice. <3
Thank you Janice for this wonderful moment – an oasis of peace that is most welcome.
