Pen and Wash Pictures

Welcome to Poetry Friday, this week hosted by artist, poet and novelist Jone Rush Macculloch Here. Thank you, Jone for hosting. I look forward to what you will be sharing.

Happy Halloween!

I’ve been away from Upstate New York for a month. I was in California visiting my son and his family, observing my grandson growing every day as he approaches two.

One day we drove to Half Moon Bay on the coast where I got a few ideas for drawings. I encountered a large expanse of textured land by the ocean with wild flowers and in some areas lots of tall pampas grass.

Vincent van Gogh drew with pencil and pen charming landscapes. Below is a Van Gogh drawing of land and haystacks I found on Artist’s Network Here. I love his use of lines and dots etc to create a landscape. What if I tried?

HAYSTACKS NEAR A FARM by Vincent van Gogh

I came up with a couple of sketches in my journal, trying to emulate his style. It was fun to doodle the landscape with a pen and apply some watercolor afterward. I hope to practice more of these.

Though it was fun to spend time with family, it’s good to be home and back to Poetry Friday. I’ve missed a lot, I know. For all those going to Poetry Palooza at Highlights in November, have fun. To everyone have a great weekend.

Thanks for reading and I’ll leave you with a poem:

ELECTION DAY HAIKU

People stand in lines.
So many early voters--
Fallen leaves crackle.

  1. Oh, those crackling leaves. Welcome home! The Pacific coast looks beautiful and more so when family is there–but western NY in fall is spectacular. Those crackling leaves, I hope they have news of real change!
