Welcome to Poetry Friday, this week hosted by Carol Labuzzeta at http://theapplesinmyorchard.com.
Thank you Carol for hosting. Carol has been busy at work collecting poems for her upcoming Ekphrastic anthology. Good luck to those who are writing and submitting.
Here’s a photo of a raven ready for Halloween.
A RAVEN
What will we all be doing to mark the day? Here are a few suggestions.
ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT Talk with jabbering witches, Meet your grandmother’s ghost. Gambol with werewolves and vampire hosts. You'll be howling and breathless! You'll feel oh so alive! and will think on it fondly, if you survive. © Janice Scully 2023
I hope all of you have a spooky holiday! And a safe one.
Janice, I love how you invite us to think about how to celebrate/spend Halloween and then offer some suggestions in your poem! Thank you! (We’ll probably do nothing – we won’t even get trick or treaters – which I miss – because we live so far out in the country!)
Love that last line, tossed in there offhandedly. “Oh, yeah, it’ll be great! If you live ’til morning…”🤣
Such a great end, Janice! I am not a raven fan, but I do love capturing them in photos – because of that menacing feeling they emit!
Ooh — you created such a spooky atmosphere in your poem. Great raven photo. “if you survive” . . . made me shudder!
Witches, vampires, ghosts, werewolves! Fun, and that last line “if you survive” Yikes!
Ah, you had us thinking, then the truly terrific end capped it all. Happy Halloween to you, too, Janice!
Fabulous twisty last line, Janice! Happy Halloween!
Spooky (and fun) poem, especially that last line. Great photo of the raven!
Survival…yes! Thanks for the spooky Halloween poem, Janice. Your last line reminds me of the lyric in the OneRepublic song ‘Counting Stars’ : “Everything that kills me makes me feel alive…”
Haha – love this, Janice – especially that last line.
We saw ravens on our trip all the way down the Blue Ridge Parkway a couple of weeks ago; I had no idea we had them anywhere in the Southeast! (Of course, they are along the spine of the Appalachians, not in our backyards.) I was enchanted! Happy Halloween.
Haha! If we survive indeed! The varmints will be out! Beware! Love your poem and sense of humor. Enjoy your Halloween.
Janice, with friends like those, Halloween would be a hoot “if you survive”. What a fabulous ending! I plan on having a boolicious evening with my little grandgirls. You reminded me to add the photos I took at our Halloween Costume Party. Have a wonderful Halloween!
Love your Raven and fun poem, Hope we all do survive, thanks Janice!
